In Mysore Style, you will get individual instruction within a group setting. The teacher is available for 2 hours (6:15-8:15am). Students arrive any time during this 2 hour period to receive assistance. You are taught by your teacher in the Ashtanga Yoga method at a pace specifically tailored for you, your body, your level of flexibility and strength. A Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga class is an assisted self practice class. In these classes all of our students are working on the same sequence of postures but their practice is tailored specifically to the individual. Students work through their own practice guided and supported by an experienced teacher. This class is suitable for any level of student. It is a great opportunity to build a personal practice under the watchful eye of a dedicated and seasoned teacher.
Ashtanga Led Primary:
The Primary Series is the first set of yoga postures, considered most important and foundational, that are taught in Ashtanga Yoga. In this class you will be guided through the complete Primary Series. The group moves and breathes together in sync. These are focused classes to support the community learning the primary series. At times we may pause to break down a specific pose. However, the intention of this class is to be a moving meditation with our breath.
Ashtanga Primary Series
This class is for all levels of Ashtanga practitioners, except for those who are brand new to this style of yoga. The instructor’s intention is to flow through the entire primary series in the traditional count. For those who are less experienced, there are two options: observe the unfamiliar asanas and/or modify the postures. Over time and with consistent practice, the student will be more comfortable and able to do the entire primary series in an uninterrupted, rhythmic, and meditative flow.
Mysore is a one on one student and teacher experience; allowing students to receive individual instruction while learning the Ashtanga Yoga practice. All levels are welcome! It is a perfect format for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the practice. In the beginning, new students will slowly build a practice using the Ashtanga Yoga sequence but individualized to the students capability. As you become more familiar with the practice, you are allowed more independence, getting adjustments and assistance only when needed.
